Boarding at Light Academy provides boys with a strong, supportive home in an educational environment. It provides a rich environment of learning and activity as it helps prepare young men for their future lives. Many former students have spoken highly of the important study skills and discipline they learned during their years of boarding and how well the experience equipped them for post-secondary and vocational success.
Light believes that the boarding experience is an integral part of School life. The School is committed to caring for boarders with particular regard to their:
• physical needs
• security and safety
• level of belonging
• self-esteem
• Self - realization.
Light School has approximately 210 boarders who are accommodated and cared for in British system hostel and 8-4-4 system hostel. Both hostels have been recently built to provide comfortable living and study quarters. Each hostel is led by a Boarding master, and several supervisors.
Each hostel is divided into small tutor groups who meet together most evenings to discuss academic, social and personal issues. These meetings’ reports are listened orally by the Boarding Master who promotes the development of peer support and the family ethos of the boarding Houses.
Each evening Boarding Master moves around all the boys during their prep/study time to offer study assistance and to keep in personal touch. An open door policy prevails with the Housemasters so that boys are comfortable to call on them whenever the need arises |
